When Newmarket’s new town council takes the reins in December, there will be some fresh faces among those well-versed in local politics — and a few familiar representatives who bid for and won two of the Town’s top political jobs

As more towns and cities change things up for voters with a switch to electronic voting, it’s important to know how they feel about the technology and to understand the impact on improving voter turnout, convenience and accessibility, an electronic election expert says.

“I think tonight’s results shows that Newmarket residents embraced a positive campaign and rejected a negative one. My opponent tried to smear me and it didn’t work,” regional councillor and deputy mayor-elect Tom Vegh said after a hard-won victory against Chris Emanuel.
