Here’s a challenge:
Do 2000 push-ups in 18 days, starting February 11.
Need some motivation?
Funds raised by those who sign up for the Push-Up Challenge will help the Canadian Mental Health Association deliver resources, services and programs to provide desperately needed mental health care across the country.
The Push-Up Challenge is Canada’s largest mental health and fitness challenge. The goal of 2000 push-ups represents one push-up for each of the approximately 2,000 lives lost to suicide each day, worldwide.
The Canadian Mental Health Association-York Region South Simcoe (CMHA YRSS) urges everyone in the community to join in on the challenge, to help raise urgently needed funds for essential mental health programming in the area.
Brianna Corrado, Support Group Coordinator for the Family Caregiver Education Group and Family Support Group at CMHA YRSS, explained: “Our Family Caregiver Education Program empowers families and caregivers with the knowledge, skills, resources, and support they need to navigate the complexities of caring for a loved one with mental health challenges.”
She added, “By providing caregivers with the tools to manage their own well-being while supporting their loved ones, we help create a stronger, more resilient community, and break down stigma surrounding mental health. Through participating in the Push-Up Challenge and raising funds, you can help ensure that this program remains a vital resource that ensures no caregiver has to face this journey alone."
CMHA YRSS has a goal of $50,000 and they are already on the way, with over $6,000 in promised funds. Currently there are 222 push-up champions pledged to take part…will you commit to being one as well?
You can register online through the website here. There’s also a handy app which helps you record your push-ups and donations, as well as telling you a different daily push-up target related to an important mental health fact. The daily targets will add up to 2000 push-ups over the 18 days of the challenge.
Fun fact! You don’t have to be a push-up pro to participate. Substitute sit-ups, squats or other exercise; or choose to aim for 1000 push-ups instead. You can register as an individual or put together a team of family, teammates or friends and participate that way. The important thing is to sign up, get strong, and raise money to help people in the community.
CMHA YRSS is looking for lots more community members to register and start exercising, to hit that $50,000 goal. Together, you can learn, get fit, and help your community. That’s an amazing thing to do!
