Central York Fire Services INSPIRE: In celebration of International Women’s Day, Central York Fire Services (CYFS) hosts the third annual INSPIRE event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 4-5, 300 Earl Stewart Dr., Aurora, to ignite interest in the next generation of first responders while taking the time to learn from first responders and why they do what they do. Drop by anytime to speak with 20+ local and regional organizations, community groups, advocates, and entrepreneurs who serve our community, check out demonstrations and safety equipment, take part in fun activities, learn about CPR with paramedics and have a chance to win prizes.

Ready, Set, Prom, March 2 to 3: Newmarket's Upper Canada Mall offers a one-stop destination for all things prom from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Shop dresses, suits, accessories, beauty services, and more. Strike a pose in front of our Prom-esque backdrop and post on IG for a chance to win a gift card. Plus, bring your pre-loved dresses to donate to Girls Inc. Prom Drive and receive a $10 Upper Canada Mall gift card.

Mom Market York Region Sip & Shop: Wine tasting, raffles, swag bags, shopping at over 30 vendors, and more at Holland Marsh Wineries, 18270 Keele St., Newmarket from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a free indoor market with a gorgeous atmosphere and outdoor patio.

English Country Dance: Join the dance at Trinity United Church, 461 Park Ave. at Main Street, Newmarket from 2 to 4 p.m. Beginners welcome; all dances taught; you don't need to bring a partner. Admission by donation; your first class is free. Join the group on the first, third and (when there is one) fifth Saturday of the month.

Connon Nurseries Winter Farmers Market: Connon Nurseries, 1870 Davis Dr. West, King, holds a farmers market with an array of vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday until March 30.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Markham Jazzlicious Winterfest, to March 22: Jazzlicious brings together food lovers and music enthusiasts for a night of delicious meals and live jazz performances. Guests can enjoy a gourmet dinner, prepared by some of Markham’s top chefs, followed by an intimate performance of award-winning Canadian jazz artists. NewRoads Girls Night Out, Thursday, March 7: Wear your PJs and celebrate International Women's Day with a local women-owned business market and guest speaker Zoe Palaire at NewRoads Performing Arts Centre at 6 p.m. $45.20 show + 2 drink tickets, or $113 show + 3 drink tickets + GNO PJ set. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to Girls Inc of York Region.

Glenn Marais & The Mojo Train Record Release Party, Friday, March 8: Glenn Marais & The Mojo Train — made up of Glenn Marais, Jeff Saulnier, Manny DeGrandis, and Jesse Karwat — mark the official record release of Red, Hot and Blue at Old Town Hall in Newmarket at 7:30 p.m. You can purchase tickets, $33.90, here.

Comic Martha Chaves' Broad Appeal, Friday, March 8: Aurora Cultural Centre presents award-winning comedian Martha Chaves with her “fierce, ferocious and effin’ funny female comic friends with their joy and insights” on International Women’s Day at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s College in Aurora. Chaves offers incisive and hilarious insights into politics, pop culture, with observations into daily life that strike a chord — and the funny bone. Chaves has assembled a cast of comic friends to round out the evening: Courtney Gilmour (Canada’s Got Talent), Sarah Boston (Comedicine comedy podcaster), and Zabrina Douglas.Tickets, $40, at AuroraCulturalCentre.ca or call the box office at 905-713-1818

Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival at Kortright, March 9 to April 8: Come out and tap into spring with family-fun activities and maple syrup demonstrations. Weekdays: festival 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., demonstrations 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., gift shop 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., café 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Weekends, Easter and March Break: festival 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., demonstrations 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., gift shop 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., café: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets $7.45 to $11.50. 

Hello Spring at the Aurora Seniors Centre on Saturday, March 30: Spring into the season with Hello Spring from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 90 John West Way. Wristbands are $5 per person and are only sold at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex, Aurora Joint Operations Centre, Aurora Town Hall, and the Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex. There will be lots of egg-citing activities to participate in, including meet the Easter Bunny, story walks, a hopstacle course, face painting, and LaSalle’s Farm will have an educational animal display with goats, lambs, chicks, and more adorable spring animals. Free goodie bag filled with treats and crafts for ages 12 and younger.
