About 44 Newmarket and area artists are presenting their work to the community at the 16th annual art walk and studio tour on Oct. 5 and 6.

Several members of the Newmarket Group of Artists gathered at the Postmark Hotel earlier this week to announce event details.

“There are so many talented people, and it’s nice to see what talent there is in the community,” said Robin Burnett, organizer.

The free tour will be part of Newmarket’s Culture Days and allow guests to meet the artists for an interactive and immersive experience.

“Rather than scrolling through your phone, you get the chance to see people from the community and have conversations with the artists about their motivation and interests,” said Burnett.

Participants can purchase art from artists directly in various mediums such as photography, jewelry, stained glass, mixed media, paintings, drawings, textiles, and ceramics in traditional, contemporary, and experimental styles. Art creates an emotional connection, Burnett said.

Brochures with details on each artist and a location map can be picked up at the Newmarket Public Library, Metropolis Mercantile and Cafe, and the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex.

This year’s venues include Main Street Realty, Old Town Hall, Thrive Urban Wellness, Good Vibes on Main, Replenish General Store, the MARC Group, Brain Power Studio, Hungry Brew Hops, and Newmarket Community Centre.

Artists will offer work in various mediums, such as photography, jewelry, stained glass, mixed media, paintings, drawings, textiles, and ceramics in traditional, contemporary, and experimental styles.

This year’s event features more artists than ever, as last year featured 37 artists. Burnett said it had an amazing call for artists, and an incredible group of people applied.

The event was developed after a group of artists joined to support and build awareness of visual artists in Newmarket in 2009.
