Aurora’s new 61,000-square-foot Town Square is designed to enrich the community's fabric through arts, heritage, and vibrant public gatherings. This transformative project not only celebrates Aurora’s historical and cultural significance, but also promises to invigorate its downtown core.

Starting Sept. 21, the Grand Opening of Aurora Town Square will roll out over three weeks and will be filled with a diverse program of events and performances. These festivities will showcase The Square’s dual indoor and outdoor facilities, which includes a 32,000-square-foot indoor space with a flexible Performance Hall capable of seating 250 patrons, and an expansive 29,000-square-foot outdoor community space.

“Town Square will become a central gathering place for our community year-round, featuring everything from a winter skating loop to summer concerts and festivals,” explained Doug Nadorozny, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Aurora.

One of the highlights of Town Square is the integration of the Aurora Museum & Archives within the new addition to the historic Church Street School. This area will ensure that Aurora’s cherished artifacts are preserved and appreciated in an environmentally controlled space.

“We are thrilled to present our town’s history in such a dynamic and accessible setting,” Nadorozny added.

Mayor Tom Mrakas expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting its potential impact on Aurora and beyond.

"Aurora Town Square marks our commitment to fostering an inclusive and vibrant cultural scene," said Mayor Mrakas. "It’s more than just a development; it’s a bold step towards making Aurora a landmark destination for cultural tourism and community bonding."

The Grand Opening events will cater to all ages and interests, from silent discos and Indigenous storytelling to a rock concert and a short film festival highlighting local senior talent.

“These events represent our vision for The Square – not just as a venue, but as a thriving community hub where every resident can find something to connect with,” highlighted Nadorozny.

This extensive celebration also features partnerships with over 40 local businesses, which will offer special promotions to ticket holders, further integrating the community’s economic ecosystem.

“We believe that these collaborations will not only enhance the Grand Opening experience but also forge lasting benefits for both attendees and local businesses,” Mayor Mrakas commented.

Looking forward, the Town of Aurora plans to sustain momentum at Town Square with a series of events, including first-run film screenings, live radio experiences, and comedy nights.

“Our aim is to provide a continuous stream of diverse and high-quality cultural programming in collaboration with our cultural partners, that resonates with all members of our community,” said Nadorozny.

As Aurora Town Square opens its doors, it invites the community to be part of a new chapter in Aurora’s story.
