York police patrolling near Jewish institutes after threatening email

Jewish institutes in York Region were among many in Canada that received a “threatening mass email” on Wednesday, according to York Regional Police.

Police received a report of the email at about 10 a.m.

“While no specific locations were identified in the email, officers attended multiple locations in York Region and confirmed there was no threat to public safety,” police said in a news release.

“The investigation is still in its infancy and we will be continuing to monitor the situation. Officers are conducting additional patrols in the areas around Jewish institutes and places of worship throughout the region.”

Police said they “will not tolerate any form of hate crime or hate/bias incidents. All reports of hate crime or hate/bias incidents will be investigated thoroughly. If you witness or have been the victim of a hate crime or hate/bias incident, we encourage you to report it to police immediately.”
