A tow truck was set on fire in the driveway of a house in Vaughan early this morning.
Video show a suspect approaches the tow truck in the area of Cityview Boulevard and Canada Drive and pouring what appears to be accelerant over the windshield and setting it ablaze June 14 at about 2:20 a.m., York Regional Police said in a news release. When officers arrived, the tow truck was engulfed in flames.
Video also shows a grey sports utility vehicle, with no lights on, driving past the residence prior to the fire.
The suspect breaks the front passenger window to gain entry into the truck. As the suspect opens the door, the car alarm is set off and the suspect flees toward Summit Drive.
The grey SUV is believed to be the suspect vehicle, police said.
Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire.
The truck was unoccupied at the time and there was no structural damage to the residence. No one was injured.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity, or with a video recording that captured uspicious activity in the area, to come forward.
