Youths from Markham and Vaughan were among six teenagers arrested and facing a slew of charges following a Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) investigation into a stolen vehicle.

On Feb. 7 at approximately 3:15 a.m., police were called to an Oakville residence in the area of Dundas Street and Sixth Line after a resident noticed thieves attempting to steal the licence plate of the vehicle in their driveway. The resident turned on the lights at the home prompting the thieves to flee, a news release said.

Investigation determined the suspects were staying in the basement of a home that was a short-term rental. Later that day, at approximately 11:40 a.m., HRPS officers arrested six people in the drive-thru of a Tim Hortons on Centennial Parkway in Hamilton in a stolen Acura SUV. During a search of the vehicle, tools associated with the break-in and theft of vehicles were found, police said.

All six suspects were held pending a bail hearing in Milton.
