Suspect sought following sexual assault in Markham mall

York Regional Police is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect in connection with a sexual assault in a mall public washroom in the City of Markham. 

On Sunday, April 17, 2022, at approximately 5:10 p.m. a 15-year-old male attended a mall located near Unionville Gate and Kennedy Road in the City of Markham. While at the mall, the victim entered a public washroom sometime between 5:40 p.m. to 5:53 p.m. and was sexually assaulted by an unknown male suspect.

Investigators are releasing images of the suspect and appealing for public assistance to identify him.

Suspect Description:

  • Male, Asian
  • Approximately 22
  • 5'9
  • Wearing a green hoodie, black sweat pants and a blue surgical mask
  • Black short hair
  • A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police. There is no statute of limitations for sexual offences and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence

If you are the survivor of sexual assault, you can report the incident online if:

  • You are not in danger
  • The person who assaulted you is not present
  • There is no evidence present that may be collected by police (blood, semen, saliva, etc.). Evidence can be collected for up to 12 days after the sexual assault has occurred
  • You have access to a private email address, to which the suspect does not have access
