Markham man arrested after jewelry store thefts in Niagara Region

A 21-year-old Markham man faces theft charges in connection with two incidents jewelry stores in St. Catharines and Welland last November.

On March 20, Niagara Regional Police Services, in collaboration with Stratford Police Service, Waterloo Police Service, Hamilton Police Service and York Regional Police, investigated the whereabouts of the suspect resulting in a search warrant being executed at a residence in Markham.  

Diego Dini faces is charged with theft under $5000 x 2 counts, according to a Niagara Police news release.

Dini attended a bail hearing on Thursday, March 20 via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines and was remanded into custody, police said.  

The first incident linked to the charges occurred Nov. 27, 2024, at 5:41 p.m. when a man entered Kavar Jewellers in Pen Centre in St. Catharines and asked to look at jewelry, police said. When the man was given access to the jewelry, he suddenly ran from the store with it.

On Nov. 27, 2024, at 6:13 p.m., a similar incident involving the same suspect occurred at Tianna’s Jewelry in the Seaway Mall in Welland.
