It's the last day for the reduced hydro rates mandated by the provincial government to provide relief to business owners and families.
Regular rates resume at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 8 for all Newmarket-Tay Power time of use and tiered customers.
For the previous 20 days, the price of electricity was kept at the off-peak rate of 8.2 cents/kWh for 24 hours a day, everyday as a COVID-19 relief measure from the to support those staying at home during the latest lockdown.
“We know that spending more time at home means using more electricity during the day when prices are higher, that’s why we are moving to off-peak electricity rates 24 hours per day, seven days a week,” Minister of Energy Todd Smith said Jan. 18 when announcing the break. “The off-peak rate will provide immediate savings for families, small businesses and farms as all Ontarians work together to slow the spread of the Omicron variant.”
The reduced rate would last for 21 days, ending at the end of the day on Feb. 7, he said.
Today, NT Power reminded its customers on social media that regular rates resume are resuming at the end of today.

As of tomorrow, time of use rates return to regular prices: Peak rates, which are from 7 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. weekdays, are 17 cents/kWh; mid-peak from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays are 11.3 cents/kWh; and off-peak from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekdays and all day on weekends will remain at 8.2 cents /kWh.
For tiered pricing customers, the first 1,000 kwh you use in the month will be charged at 9.8 ¢/kWh and anything above that will cost 11.5 ¢/kWh
