Report Coyote and Fox Sightings with the Town of Aurora

20240712-town-of-aurora2

The Town of Aurora is committed to fostering a harmonious coexistence between residents and local wildlife. The Town of Aurora has developed an online reporting system for coyotes and fox sightings. This innovative tool enables Animal Services to identify areas needing patrols, signage, community outreach, and educational efforts. It also aids in addressing concerns about the feeding of wildlife and provides guidance on keeping families and pets safe.

Residents are encouraged to report any encounters with coyotes and foxes, detailing the location, time, and nature of the sighting.

Coyotes and foxes are crucial components of our ecosystem and generally do not threaten humans. However, they can be dangerous to cats and small dogs. By understanding and respecting wildlife, we can ensure a peaceful coexistence. Here are some tips to help you stay safe:

  • Stay alert when in forested areas, ravines, and open spaces.
  • Keep dogs on a short leash during walks and carry a whistle or stick to deter coyotes.
  • Do not leave pets unattended outdoors, as coyotes can jump fences.
  • Remove food sources, secure garbage and compost, and fence off gardens to prevent wildlife intrusion.
  • Avoid approaching coyotes or their dens to prevent provoking them.
