20241129-basketball

In alignment with the Sport Plan, the Town of Aurora is excited to partner with Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) and York North Basketball Association (YNBA) to offer a coaching certification course for female-identifying candidates aged 15 and above. This empowering initiative is a significant step towards cultivating the skills of females in the sports industry.

"Ontario Basketball is proud to partner with the Town of Aurora to empower the next generation of athletes and coaches. Providing opportunity for youth and adults to become involved and trained to better our basketball environment,” said Tristan Cave, Senior Manager, Club and Coaching Development – Ontario Basketball Association. ”Together, we’re building stronger communities and shaping the future of the game."

"York North Basketball Association (YNBA) is super excited to continue our partnership with the Town of Aurora and support elevating sport and coaching in Aurora. One of our mandates is to develop and support females in basketball and we are determined to aid in the long-term development of female youth basketball in York Region and Ontario. The collaboration with the Town of Aurora to make coaching pathways more accessible and affordable is an important measure in this mandate. We want to thank the Town of Aurora for providing this platform for prospective female coaches and for the opportunity to support our community," said Matt Cundari, Executive Director at York North Basketball Association.

Join us on December 7 and 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aurora Family Leisure Complex, to earn your Level 1 (Learn to Train) coaching certification. This course is part of the Female-Only Coach Certification Pathway.

The course fee is $350. Participants can apply for 60 percent reimbursement through the Quest for Gold program (via Coaches Association of Ontario). Additional reimbursement is available for YNBA-affiliated participants. Details will be provided during the course. By creating a space exclusively for young females, this initiative aims to build confidence, safety, and opportunities for female coaches in basketball.
