On Tuesday, February 25 from 6-8 p.m., join us for the highly anticipated launch of the Ancestral Voices We Belong podcast in the Davide De Simone Performance Hall Lobby at Aurora Town Square. This new podcast series explores and celebrates the diverse narratives of Indigenous, Caribbean, African, and Black communities, hosted by Traditional Anishinaabe Grandmother Kim Wheatley and Jamaican Canadian Storyteller and Lawyer Maxine Gordon Palomino.
Through this engaging conversation series, listeners will delve into the past, present, and future of own-voices storytelling—an essential part of preserving and sharing the unique lived experiences of these communities. The series seeks to highlight the diverse histories that shape our collective identity and to offer a platform for Indigenous, Caribbean, and Black voices to be heard and celebrated.
As the podcast grows, it aims to create a space where listeners can connect with personal and community stories that often remain untold, fostering understanding and appreciation across cultures and backgrounds.
Throughout the evening, guests will be treated to flavourful hors d'oeuvres provided by The Wholesome Conscious, an Anishinaabe and Guyanese-owned catering company and Irie | bistro. The thoughtfully curated menu will include mouthwatering offerings such as wild rice bites, apple cinnamon cedar tea and callaloo bites.
Mark your calendars for this not-to-be-missed event, and be sure to join Kim Wheatley, Maxine Gordon Palomino, and fellow community members for an evening of learning, sharing, and celebrating the power of storytelling. Learn more at aurora.ca/WhatsOn.
