An arrest warrant has been issued for a 23-year-old Newmarket man following the homicide of a 22-year-old woman in Newmarket July 29.
Alexander Jolly is wanted for first-degree murder in the death of Toronto resident Nicole Mercer, who was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound in the yard of a house on Prospect Street, south of Gorham Street at 1:30 a.m. July 29, according to York Regional Police.
She was pronounced deceased at the hospital, and a post-mortem examination confirmed the cause of death as a gunshot wound, police said.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and citizens are advised not to approach him, but to immediately call 911.
Jolly is described at 6 feet 2 inches in height, 150 pounds, and of thin build. He has a fair complexion, straight brown hair and blue eyes.
Police are urging Jolly to seek legal counsel and turn himself in.
Anyone who is or has assisted the suspect may be subject to criminal charges, police added.
Police were not able to comment on how Jolly was identified as a suspect in this case or if he is connected to the victim.
