Victim injured in violent convenience store robbery in Markham

A 32-year-old man of no fixed addressed has been charged following a violent convenience store robbery in Markham Thursday night.

Police were called after a suspect entered the store at Bur Oak Avenue and 16th Avenue and assaulted a victim in an unsuccessful attempt to steal items Nov. 21 shortly after 5:30 p.m., York Regional Police said in a news release.

The suspect fled on foot, leaving the victim with minor injuries that were treated at a local hospital, police said. Investigators were able to locate a suspect.

De’Angelo Jerome Howe, 32, of no fixed address is charged with robbery, fail to comply with probation order and assaulting a peace officer.

At the time of the offence, Howe was on several release orders, as well as probation, police said. Howe was also being sought by York Regional Police and Peel Regional Police for unrelated offences.
