Stouffville bust leads to dismantling of magic mushrooms operation in Hamilton area

York Regional Police seized drugs with a street value of almost $500,000 and dismantled a large illegal psilocybin mushroom operation in Puslinch

Investigators with the York Regional Police guns, gangs and drug enforcement unit have dismantled a large illegal psilocybin mushroom operation in the Township of Puslinch and seized drugs with a street value of almost $500,000.

An investigation into the distribution of illegal psilocybin began in August 2024, when investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Whitchurch-Stouffville, where a small clandestine lab growing magic mushrooms was found, a news release stated. The discovery led investigators to a larger operation in Puslinch and the Hamilton area, police said.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, officers executed warrants at a residence in Hamilton and a rural property on Victoria Road South in Puslinch. In Hamilton, they seized approximately 100 pounds of magic mushrooms and a quantity of cash. At the property in Puslinch, they located a large manufacturing facility, where it’s believed the lab is producing magic mushrooms for illegal commercial distribution across Ontario.

The discovery is one of the largest psilocybin lab operations uncovered by York Regional Police, police said.
