Police seize gun, drugs during vehicle search at Markham RIDE check

A gun and drugs were seized at a RIDE check Thursday in Markham.

A man is facing weapon and drug charges following a RIDE check Thursday in Markham.

At about 10:50 p.m., York Regional Police officers were conducting a RIDE spot check in the area of Kennedy Road and Highway 407. A vehicle was stopped and cannabis was observed readily available to the driver.

During a search of the vehicle, police found a gun, cocaine and pills believed to be a controlled substance.

Wayne Holung, 33, of Markham, has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm without a licence
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a firearm knowing its serial number has been tampered with
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (other, Schedule 1)
  • Driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available
