Police are turning to the public after failing to find next of kin of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision in Richmond Hill last month.
On Sept. 1, at about 9:15 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a pedestrian collision in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Cedar Avenue. They learned a 26-year-old woman had been hit by a dark Honda Civic while crossing the street. The driver did not remain at the scene.
The victim was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead. She has been identified as Nouf Mohammed Almatrudi.
Police said they have exhausted all leads in attempting to contact the victim's family and are now appealing to the public for anyone who has information about her to come forward.
Investigators are also appealing for the driver of a witness vehicle that was in the area to come forward. Prior to the collision, the Honda Civic was stopped at the intersection of Major Mackenzie and Yonge Street and a green-wrapped, company crossover type vehicle was stopped beside it. Police would like to speak with the driver of that vehicle.
Finally, the suspect driver in this collision is also advised to seek legal counsel and turn themselves in. Anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle is also asked to come forward.
The vehicle is a dark-coloured, possibly grey, four-door Honda Civic, model year between 2009 and 2011. It has a loud muffler and damage to the passenger side door and windshield.
Anyone with information that can help investigators is asked to contact York Regional Police's Major Collision Investigation Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704 or email [email protected]. You can also leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
Police have also create a link for people to submit evidence related to this case, such as dashcam or surveillance footage. You can upload any relevant evidence online.
