Police continue search for man wanted for carjacking in Newmarket

Crime Stoppers of York Region issues appeal for information about Giani Sighu in connection with the Aug. 3 incident as a gas station

Crime Stoppers of York Region has released a video of a man wanted for stealing a car at a gas station in Newmarket.

The man approached a woman at a gas station at Mulock Drive and Harry Walker Parkway, where he entered her vehicle while she was pumping gas on Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m.

The man started driving away with the vehicle when a Good Samaritan pulled in front of it and blocked the vehicle. However, the suspect was able to flee by reversing, nearly ripping off the door of the vehicle. Nobody was injured, Crime Stoppers says.

Giani Sighu is described as 39, five foot eight inches with black hair and a black beard. He was last seen wearing a short-sleeved polo shirt, black athletic pants, navy blue prisoner-issued slip-on shoes, and a white or tan bucket hat.
