The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have responded to a number of violent incidents on provincial highways recently. Reports of road rage, assaults, weapons calls and aggressive driving are a concern for public safety. In response to these types of calls, the OPP mobilized a team of officers to conduct a high visibility enforcement initiative over a period of several shifts throughout the month of November. These are the results of their efforts:
- 614 vehicles stopped
- 39 Arrests, 7 individuals held for bail hearings
- 150 Provincial Offence Notices
- 56 Criminal Charges
- 1 stolen SUV recovered
- 1 stolen transport truck with two fully loaded trailers recovered
- Charges associated with dangerous driving and street racing with speeds of 194 km/h
- 2 imitation handguns seized. 1 - 21" expandable baton
- 2 vehicles seized
- Drug seizures consisting of cannabis, cocaine, fentanyl, OxyContin pills, and crystal meth
- $6795.00 cash seized
- 4 - three-day driver licence suspensions issued
