A Mississauga man has been charged with second-degree murder following an arson Sunday at a restaurant in King Township.
Shortly before 3 a.m., police responded to the restaurant in the area of Highway 27 and King Road for reports of a fire. The building was engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived, according to a York Regional Police news release.
Vaughan firefighters put out the blaze, searched the property and found a deceased person inside. Investigators are awaiting confirmation of the person’s identity from the coroner.
The Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted.
Saeed Alshoubaki, 22, has been charged with second-degree murder and arson.
Police believe the incident was targeted and they are asking anyone who witnessed it or was in the area at the time to check their security cameras or dash cam footage.
