King woman, 23, charged after rash of vandalism in Vaughan

Hate crime unit is reviewing after racist graffiti was spray painted on a house, vehicles, city property, police say

A 23-year-old woman from King has been charged after a rash of vandalism in Vaughan earlier this week.

York Regional Police received a series of reports of mischief to a property in the area of Burnhaven Avenue and Haymer Drive on Sept. 9 at 5 a.m.. Investigators learned that at about 1:15 a.m., following a dispute, a suspect attended an individual’s house and used spray paint to deface a residence and vehicle, including racist symbols and remarks despite the victim not being part of that community.

“While investigating this incident, police discovered additional vehicles and city property spray painted with graffiti, including racist slurs,” police said in a news release.

The hate crime unit is reviewing the incident, police said.

Denica Zufic of King has been charged with 11 counts of mischief to property, one count of harassing communications, and two counts of failing to comply with undertaking.
