Girl, 16, shot at 'car meet' in plaza parking lot in Vaughan

Teen transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, remains in stable condition

Police say a teenage girl was shot last night at an unplanned "car meet" in a plaza parking lot in Vaughan where more than 100 people gathered, but so far they do not have a description of a suspect.

Investigators said they are treating the shooting as an isolated incident.

York Regional Police said the teen was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where she remains in stable condition.

Investigators with the YRP #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking suspects and appealing for witnesses.

Police said at around 8:50 p.m. they received a report of a female shot in a plaza parking lot near Weston Road and Highway 7, according to a news release.

Responding officers located a 16-year-old girl suffering from gunshot wounds.

Any witnesses who have not yet spoken to investigators are urged to come forward as soon as possible, along with anyone who has video footage, including dashcam, cell phone, or security recordings from the area around the time of the incident, police said.
