Police seized this handgun Sunday at a hotel in Markham.

Three people are facing weapon charges after police were called to a Markham hotel Sunday.

York Regional Police were contacted at about 2:45 p.m. after three guests at a hotel at Warden Avenue and Denison Street refused to leave following checkout time, according to a news release.

When officers got to the room, they saw a firearm in a gift bag near the door. It didn’t have any visible branding or serial numbers, and police believe it is a “ghost gun” — a type of homemade weapon sometimes created with a 3D printer.

Tahjae Harmmony Browne, 24, Kezriah Michelle McFarlane, 21, and Ishmael Herrera, 21, all of Toronto, have been charged with possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and trespassing.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the York Regional Police #5 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7541, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Information can be provided anonymously at 1800222tips.com.
