A fire at a vacant downtown Bradford West Gwillimbury building that had already burned down in February is considered suspicious, according to South Simcoe police.
A fire on Sunday evening broke out around 7:30 p.m. at 72 and 74 Holland St. E., between Bingham and Nelson streets, said Sue Sgambati, corporate communications specialist for the police service.
“The latest fire was quickly extinguished by Bradford West Gwillimbury firefighters. There were no injuries,” she said.
“The fire is considered suspicious in nature and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.”
Due to the initial fire Feb. 9, firefighters demolished the building to properly access smouldering materials, and make sure there were no victims inside. No one was injured.
Damages were last estimated by Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire Chief Kevin Gallant to be in the range of $500,000.
