The cause of death of human remains found in Newmarket last week has been deemed not criminal or suspicious following an investigation by the York Regional Police homicide unit.

Police confirmed a deceased person was found on Oct. 4 at Environmental Park, 325 Woodspring Ave, near William Booth Avenue and Ford Wilson Boulevard.

Multiple people in the neighbourhood observed uniformed officers and forensics specialists placing yellow tape around the area at about 4:30 p.m. and the removal of a body bag from the site. They saw York Regional Paramedic Services in attendance.

Police declined to provide further details and would not identify the individual. The investigation is closed.
