Police are investigating two incidents of arson in Markham.

On Jan. 21 at about 4 a.m., police responded to reports of a fire outside a business in the area of Green Lane and Guardsman Road. Three vehicles were engulfed in flames and there was damage to the business. It was determined an accelerant was used to set the fire intentionally.

On Jan. 27 at about 5 a.m., a fire was set at a different address in the area of Green Lane and Guardsman Road. Sixteen vehicles were damaged by the fire and an accelerant was used, police said.

In both incidents, no one was in the buildings at the time of the fires and no injuries were reported.

“Each incident is being investigated individually, and while the arsons did occur in close proximity to each other, there is no evidence to directly link them,” York Regional Police said in a news release.
