In the last weekend alone, 25 drivers were charged with stunt driving on York Region roads, police said.
Between Friday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 7, York Regional Police laic charges for stunt driving and racing-related incidents.
A 44-year-old Vaughan man was among those charged.
Anis Abdolmaleki is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, stunt driving, and speeding.
A man was pulled over at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 for going 178 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Major Mackenzie Drive, west of Pine Valley Drive in Vaughan.
The vehicle was stopped and impounded for 14 days. Abdolmaleki's licence was suspended for 30 days.
Road safety is a priority of the YRP Road Safety Bureau, which focuses enforcement efforts on speeding, stunt driving, and street racing.
According to police, excessive speeding is one of the greatest contributors in fatal collisions on York Region roads.
"Street racers put themselves and unsuspecting road users at risk of death or serious injury when they choose to disobey traffic laws and drive without due care and control and with a disregard for public safety," YRP said in a news release.
You are asked to call 911 if you see dangerous driving out on the roads. Police say to try and make note of the vehicle make and model, location, direction it is heading, the licence plate and a description of the driver.
