Ward 3 council candidate Jack Zangari

Name: Jack Zangari

Position for which you are running: Ward 3 Councillor

Do you reside in the ward in which you are running (council candidates): No

Outline your background/experience (100-word limit):

I lived in Ward 3 for more than 30 years, raising my two children there. I am a former President of the Newmarket Jaycees and later a Jaycees Senator. I am a former business owner and businessman in the community and a charter member of the local Rotary Club, and organizer of the annual Newmarket Major Atom Tournament (30 years serving). I currently serve on the Booard of the Very Useful Theatre Company.

What are the top four qualities required to be an effective municipal representative? (4-word limit):

1. Effective ...

2. Attend ...

3. Attention...

4.  Stop ...

Explain why you are the best qualified candidate. (100-word limit):

As mentioned, I am a former business owner and businessman and I know the concerns of the Ward 3 residents -- Ward 3 has become the 'forgotten ward' in the past 8 years. For one of my qualities, I will attend every meeting humanly possible and truly represent my consistituents who are more than that, they are my 'friends'. I will make sure that Ward 3 gets its fair share of tax dollars from the town. I have actually lived in Newmarket for more than 45 years and I truly love this town and will serve to the best of my ...

What are the two most important issues for your ward/constituents? (200-word limit):

1. The most important issue is that Ward 3 has become the 'forgotten ward' when monies from the Town were being allocated to the various parts of town. Plus there has been little representation at the council table, speaking out for Ward 3 residents, for the past 8 years. This is just not fair to the many residents of Ward 3. I will be the true champion of issues at the council table for this Ward I am seeking the councillor seat in.

2. A big issue I plan when elected, is to make sure the Hollingsworth Arena lands are not built into some mega-apartment building. I will aggressively seek to have these lands turned into a community hub for Ward 3 and the entire town. I would like to see meetings rooms and a splash pad on this site. This is, of course, when the Hollingsworth Arena is deemed obsolete. It's also possible, this site could be used for a new library in Town. Did you know that Hollingsworth is the only Town-owned facility north of Davis Dr. As I said, Ward 3 has not been represented at the council table.

What will you do to ensure you are accountable to your constituents? (50-word limit):

I, Jack Zangari, have on all my campaign literature, listed my website (jack4ward3.com); my cell number at 905-252-5943; and my home number 905-853-9772; and my personal e-mail ([email protected])......not some government-funded phone number.

What is the most important issue for council/school board to address in the next term? (100-word limit):

Taxes have been going up each of the past 8 years. This needs to be addressed to make Newmarket an affordable place for residents to live and work in. We need affordable housing, which this would allow if taxes were more reasonable and also people on fixed incomes could stay in the community.

Describe your dream project that would result in a better quality of life in Newmarket. (100-word limit): As mentioned, upgrading all playgrounds in Ward 3, including Charles Van Zant park lands, and bringing a full community hub to the Hollingsworth Arena lands, including meeting rooms for residents'...
