Newmarket and Aurora will have dozens of new locations in town to buy alcohol come Sept. 5 when the new provincial sales licences come into effect.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) has approved licences for more than 4,000 convenience stores across the province, as the province opens up alcohol sales at convenience stores.
“Our government is keeping our promise to give people in Ontario choice and convenience while supporting Ontario-made beverage producers across the province,” Minister of Finance Peter Bethlenfalvy said previously in a news release.
Convenience store owners in Newmarket cited a desire for more business and foot traffic as reasons to get involved in the sale.
Newmarket will have about 30 new stores selling alcohol come Sept. 5. They include:

The AGCO said in an Aug. 29 news release it would work to ensure regulation compliance for all operators.
"Compliance is a legal obligation. Adhering to these regulations is essential for upholding business integrity and ensuring public safety. By fulfilling your obligations, you help ensure that alcohol is sold safely and responsibly," AGCO said.
