Elf the Musical, Nov. 10 to 20: Elf the Musical is the comic tale of Buddy the elf, whose enormous size and poor toy-making abilities make him wonder if he is actually an elf, leading to an adventure in New York city. Brimming with joyful optimism and holiday spirit, this modern-day Christmas classic make everyone embrace their inner elf. Multiple dates and show times available Nov. 10 to 20 at NewRoads Performing Arts Centre, 505 Pickering Cres. Board Gaming: Join local board game enthusiasts at Cardinal Press Espresso Bar at 200 Main St. Newmarket from 6 to 10 p.m. The games are provided and teachers are available, or you bring your games to teach others. Note from organizers: We don't tend to play a lot of 'traditional' board games such as Monopoly, Clue, Sorry! Let them know what you would like to play when you RSVP and they will bring those games.

Safe Harbour at Alexander Muir Retirement Home: Enjoy the duet of John Prince and Donny Wood as they play some great toe-tapping down East music from 2 to 3 p.m. at 197 Prospect St.

Saturday, Nov. 12

Canadian Concert Classics, Nov. 12:  At Newmarket's Old Town Hall, enjoy concerts featuring Juno award-winning talent, sponsored by Mercedes Benz Newmarket. On Saturday, Nov. 12 is two-time Juno award winner Donne Roberts and his six-piece band. Doors open at 6 p.m. with concerts performed from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. There are only 168 seats available per concert. Tickets, $60, can be purchased at newtix.ca.

Deck the Wall Art Show and Sale: The art show and sale includes the fine paintings (in acrylic, oil, and watercolour), textiles, pottery, mixed media of 16 artists and artisans from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the King Heritage and Cultural Centre, 2920 King Rd., King City. See participating artists on the Arts Society King website.

Hotel California – The Original Tribute To The Eagles: Hotel California's show has evolved into a masterful celebration of The Eagles' music. One of the most game-changing song catalogues in the history of rock 'n' roll is performed to perfection before your eyes and ears, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Stephen Leacock Theatre, 130 Gwendolyn Blvd, Keswick. Tickets, $55 and $45. Supporting the Georgina Ice Junior Hockey.

Outdoor Meditation at Fairy Lake Park: Simple Practice of Mindfulness for Deep Transformation presents regular meditation sessions outdoors in all seasons from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Sunday, Nov. 13

Beautifully Human, Walking the Healing Journey: An hour of connection, drumming and wellness from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Main Street Music Hall above Old Flame, 140 Main St., Newmarket. This inspirational and connective event is led by Glenn Marais, a certified meditation/ mindfulness practitioner. This will also feature live music with Jesse Karwat and Manny De Grandis.Tickets are limited and are $30 in advance and $35 at the door, if available.

Pinetree Potters Guild Empty Bowls, Nov. 17: The 13th Annual Empty Bowls event will raise much needed funds for two local charities, Welcoming Arms, Aurora and Inn From the Cold, Newmarket at Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St., Newmarket. Lunch sitting 1: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; lunch sitting 2  1:30 to 3 p.m.; dinner sold out. Tickets, $50, are available for purchase at Meridian Credit Union in Aurora, 297 Wellington St. E., during business hours. Payments must be made in cash only. Tickets are limited.

Pinetree Potters Guild Show & Sale, Nov. 17 to 20: More than 2,000 unique pieces of handmade pottery by 39 potters will be available for sale. Enjoy both functional and decorative porcelain, stoneware, and Raku pottery. Santa Claus Parade, Saturday, Nov. 19: One of Newmarket's favourite holiday events is back in its traditional form. The Town of Newmarket is once again hosting the Santa Claus Parade along Eagle Street and Main Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to kick start the holiday season with loads of cheer. The Town is also seeking volunteers to help bring the parade  to life. There are multiple opportunities to get involved whether it be dressing up as a costume character of assisting as a parade marshal. See the website for volunteer opportunities and to apply.   

Trinity on Main presents The Sweet Sound of Steel, Saturday, Nov. 19: A Steelpan Concert with Gemini Pan Groove at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 461 Park Ave., Newmarket. Admission $25 in advance, $30 at door, or $50 Caribbean dinner with concert, 6 p.m. (jerk chicken, rice & peas, curried goat, curried chickpea, roti). Cash bar. Student and child discounts available. Wavestage Theatre presents Chicago, Nov. 24 to 27: Set in the legendary city during the roaring '20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail. Babes Who Brunch - Glitz & Galz: The Last Disco, Sunday. Nov. 27: Event includes bottomless prosecco (a Babes Who Brunch tradition), a specialty welcome cocktail, one drink ticket per guest for a specialty drink, oyster bar, famous Eventmrkt eats (featuring a variety of passed appetizers & grazing station), glitz beauty bar, surprise entertainment & a local love swag bag. Barra MacNeils Live in Newmarket, Sunday, Dec. 11: The Barra MacNeils - An East Coast Christmas is a musical potpourri of traditional MacNeil family favourites gleaned from Christmas ceilidhs, midnight masses and the general festive frolic that accompanies each holiday season. With their captivating vocals, distinctive harmonies and extraordinary musicianship, The Barra MacNeils inject new life and energy into the sights and sounds of Christmas.
