Vaughan restaurant, Markham karaoke bar charged for food safety violations

A restaurant in Vaughan and karaoke bar in Markham were charged with food safety violations by York Region Public Health inspectors last week.

Max’s of Manila at 1520 Steeles Ave. W. was charged Aug. 27 for using food equipment not in good repair, failure to maintain a ventilation system to ensure elimination of smoke, and failure to protect food from contamination or adulteration.

A report of non-compliance notes failure to maintain equipment in good repair, adjust or repair a malfunctioning freezer, failure to remove garbage and liquid waste when necessary to maintain sanitary condition, fail to maintain ventilation system to ensure elimination of odours, fumes, vapours, fail to ensure walls are kept clean/in good repair and fail to ensure floors are kept clean/in good repair.

Health inspectors conducted food handler education on-site. A proof of public health sign was posted and a ticket was served. A re-inspection will be conducted at a later date. 

The restaurant was inspected twice earlier this year, three times in 2023, and once in 2022.

H2 KTV at 8601 Warden Ave. in Markham was charged Aug. 27 for food premise not maintained with clean floors in food-handling room, failure to sanitize utensils as often as necessary and failure to maintain records of food purchased for one year.

A report of non-compliance notes failure to ensure equipment surface clean as necessary, failure to ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair, failure to ensure equipment surface cleaned as necessary, and failure to maintain records of food purchase for one year.

Health inspectors educated food handlers and a ticket was served. A proof of public health sign was posted.
