The Town of Newmarket is closing Elm Street during the day starting this week for the remainder of the year for a reconstruction project.

The street between Park Avenue and Millard Avenue will be closed until Dec. 31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This is to allow for a road reconstruction project happening in the area.

Alternate routes are available, with Elm open to local traffic only.

“We appreciate your patience as we make improvements to your street,” the municipality said on its website.

The scope of work includes watermain lining and installation, sidewalk modification on Millard, full-depth road reconstruction and the installation of new sanitary sewers.

The project is being done in phases. This year, watermain works will be going forward, which will include some tree removal and road reconstruction of Elm Steet.

Work will stop for the winter and resume in the spring, which will involve sanitary sewer installation as well as road reconstruction on sections of Millard Avenue.
