A state-of-the-art indoor pickleball facility is opening later this year in the former Sears location at Georgian Mall in Barrie.
Pickleplex, at 521 Bayfield St., unit 4, will have seven courts for players of all skill levels that will be open daily, and offer a range of services including court rentals, social leagues, coaching, open play time, and bookable event rooms for tournaments, and corporate and private events.
"With the growing popularity of pickleball, the facility is set to become a local hotspot for recreational and competitive play," the company's news release said.
The facility will have professional-grade courts featuring industry-leading surfaces and indirect lighting, ensuring the best playing conditions, as well as air and temperature control for a comfortable play environment year-round.
"This flagship Pickleplex location has been developed with a commitment to quality that reflects the vision of its founders," the company stated. "The Pickleplex team extensively researched leading pickleball venues across North America to bring Barrie a first-class space."
Co-founder and president Steven Fry is a Barrie native who said he is excited to bring his passion for pickleball to his hometown.

In addition to its courts, Pickleplex will have change rooms with showers and lockers and ample parking, Pickleplex embraces the social aspect of the game and invites players to enjoy fresh smoothies for purchase, and socializing in the fully licensed facility.
