Richmond Hill hosted 12 municipal officials from various regions of Nigeria at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts today.
The delegation was part of the city’s continued plan to support development and growth across Richmond Hill, according to a City of Richmond Hill news release.
“Any opportunity to welcome delegations to our great city is a win-win. We’re fortunate to be able to offer an in-depth look at how municipal government in our country works, while gaining an understanding of municipal government abroad," Richmond Hill Mayor David West said.
Key areas of discussion included city infrastructure, planning processes, legislative services and economic development. Highlights included learning about Richmond Hill’s innovation ecosystem and the Centre for Local Innovation and Collaboration.
A number of Richmond Hill businesses also joined the workshop presentations, including Visual Defence and Aecometric. Both companies have worked closely with clients in Africa to export products and services, and shared their success stories.
"Occasions like this are also a great way to learn from each other while promoting our amazing community and helping our innovative businesses expand on an international front,” West said.
Richmond Hill is home to more than 5,180 businesses, part of Canada’s largest technology cluster and boasts one of Canada’s most educated workforces, the city stated.
