Newmarket, East Gwillimbury, Vaughan restaurants charged with food safety violations

Restaurants in Newmarket, East Gwillimbury and Vaughan have been charged with food safety violations following inspections by York Region Public Health last week.

Mint Garden at 17830 Leslie St., Unit. 1, in Newmarket was charged March 19 with failing to ensure completion of food handling training by a food handler or supervisor, according to an inspection report.

The report notes non-compliance on multiple items, including failing to maintain a clean ventilation system, failing to ensure equipment surface is clean as necessary, failing to maintain records of pest control measures taken, failing to ensure floors are kept clean and in good repair, and failing to ensure completion of food handling training by food handler or supervisor.

Food handler education was carried out on-site and a ticket was served, with re-inspection to be conducted at a later date.

Chen’s Restaurant at 19135 Centre St. in Mount Albert, East Gwillimbury was charged March 20 with food premises maintained in a manner adversely affecting sanitary operation.

The report notes non-compliance items that include failing to ensure the equipment surface was cleaned as necessary, failing to maintain records of pest control measures taken, failing to keep the washroom facility sanitary, and failing to maintain the premises in a clean and sanitary condition.

Food handler education was carried out on-site and a ticket was served with re-inspection to be conducted at a later date.

Also charge on March 19 was Max’s of Manila at 1520 Steeles Avenue W., unit 121, in Vaughan for using food equipment not good in repair and failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration. 

Items in the report stated not in compliance include failing to maintain equipment that was in good repair, failing to ensure walls were kept clean and in good repair, and failing to ensure floors were kept clean or in good repair.

Food handler education was carried out on-site and a ticket was served.

The public health unit states the inspection report represents the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time.
