Five people escaped a Tottenham house fire unscathed Thursday after a candle ignited a drape.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to the home in the area of Casserley Crescent. The fire did not spread to nearby residences and was put out shortly after crews arrived.
“The cause of the fire was determined to be a candle that ignited a drape covering a window in the basement and it is not considered to be suspicious,” Nottawasaga OPP said in a news release.
The occupants will be staying with friends temporarily as the home sustained severe smoke damage and flooding in the basement.
