The Honda Canada Foundation is stepping up to help ensure children in some York Region schools have access to healthy meals.
The foundation is sponsoring the Food Bank of York Region program currently providing fresh and non-perishable food for meal and snack programs and school pantries to children from food-insecure households at 22 schools across the region, according to a news release.
“The school food program operated by the Food Bank of York Region is helping children in our community get the positive start they need to be at their best,” said Laura Heasman, operations manager, Honda Canada Foundation.
“Honda Canada Foundation is dedicated to helping those who strive to make our society better, hence, we have partnered with the Food Bank of York Region as they share our vision and values in striving to make a difference and enhancing the lives and social well-being of those in our community.”
The Food Bank of York Region is the regional food bank and mobile food pantry serving a network of more than 88 non-profit agencies, food pantries, schools, shelters, social housing and community organizations. The food bank supports programs in the nine municipalities of York Region, including Newmarket.
“Nutritious meals are essential for children to thrive – but not all children have access to healthy balanced meals,” Alex Bilotta, founder and CEO of the Food Bank of York Region, said. “Our goal is to make more food accessible to food-insecure children in schools throughout the region. We are pleased to have Honda Canada Foundation as our partner, and their support will help expand the program’s reach.”
