T
he Regent Park community in Toronto is undergoing a remarkable transformation with The Daniels on Parliament project, developed by The Daniels Corporation. This project will not only create vibrant spaces for residents and businesses but it is also pioneering the use of innovative low-carbon building materials.
Central to the project’s sustainability efforts is the ECOPact® low-carbon concrete from Innocon, a member of Lafarge Canada. The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to reducing the environmental impact of urban development.
Meeting the Demands of Modern Construction
“This unique initiative marks a progressive milestone in how we collaborate to build high-quality living spaces sustainably,” said David Kelly, President, Innocon. “We aim to establish a new standard for sustainable construction in Toronto and to promote further adoption of ECOPact®, our low-carbon concrete solution, in the construction industry.”
Sustainable Construction at Scale
The Daniels on Parliament project located at 365 Parliament Street includes two towers: 25 and 10 storeys, housing 643 residential units, retail spaces, and underground parking. Construction began in spring 2023 and is expected to conclude by late winter 2025.
The Power of ECOPact
The use of ECOPact® concrete has been a game-changer, delivering an estimated 1,400-tonne reduction in CO2 emissions, equivalent to a 25% decrease in the structure's embodied carbon footprint. The project began incorporating ECOPact® in the foundation, including beams, footings, and pile caps, and its use continues in above-grade components like slabs and columns.
"Projects like Daniels on Parliament are crucial for demonstrating the viability and benefits of sustainable construction practices. They pave the way for broader industry adoption and a more sustainable future," said John Marshall, Sales Manager at Innocon, a member of Lafarge Canada.
