*************************
Issued at 2025-01-01 9:56AM EST by Environment Canada:
Snow squall watch issued for:
Newmarket - Georgina - Northern York Region, Ont.
Innisfil - New Tecumseth - Angus, Ont.
Snow squall watch continued for:
Barrie - Orillia - Midland, Ont.

Current details:
Lake effect snow squalls forecast beginning Thursday morning.

Hazards:
Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations of 20 to 30 cm by Thursday evening.
Additional accumulations likely Thursday night.
Poor visibility at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Timing:
Beginning early Thursday and continuing through the evening.
Additional snow squalls likely Thursday night.

Discussion:
Lake effect snow squalls off Georgian Bay will develop in the wake of a low pressure system. Northwest winds gusting up to 60 km/h can result in blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility at times.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
