Graffiti vandals hit Newmarket's Riverwalk Commons

'Graffiti is a crime': Town encourages residents to report graffiti and vandalism when they see it

An area of Riverwalk Commons was targeted by graffiti vandals this week.

Teal paint was sprayed on doors at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall and nearby dumpsters and utility boxes.

Mark Agnoletto, public works services director at the Town of Newmarket, said the graffiti was quickly cleaned up by staff when the town became aware of it.

The estimated cost of the cleanup, including staff time and supplies, is approximately $100, he said.

He also said the town regularly monitors areas in the community for graffiti to remove it as soon as possible.

Newmarket residents are encouraged to report graffiti and vandalism when they see it by sending an email to [email protected] or by calling 905-895-5813.

He added the “report a problem” feature in the town's Recycle Coach app can be used to make a report.

“Residents who see graffiti or vandalism in progress are encouraged to call 911," Agnoletto said. "Graffiti is a crime and should be reported to York Regional Police.
