Canadian bass-baritone Joel Allison joins pianist Vlad Soloviev in performance of an enduring English masterpiece - The House of Life by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Set to six sonnets of Dante Gabriel Rosetti, a prominent 19th-century poet and painter of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, the song cycle is a telling commentary on love, loss and art. It is an encouraging and consoling contemplation of human experience, richly illuminated through the lens of English art song.

Canadian bass‐baritone Joel Allison has earned praise for his “rich, ringing tone.” (Ludwig Van Toronto). A recent graduate of the elite Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Joel was awarded second place in the Christina and Louis Quilico Competition in 2019 and was a semi-finalist in 2020 at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

In the summer of 2019, Joel sang the role of Dr. Roland Angeler in Lange’s Der Gesang der Zauberinsel at Salzburger Festspiele and is currently a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper Berlin where he made his debut singing Escamillo in Carmen.

The virtual edition will be released on Easter Sunday, April 4 at 4 p.m., but will be available on YouTube afterwards.
