A Thornhill man and Richmond Hill man were arrested in connection with a carjacking after a vehicle was “aggressively” followed by a tow truck early Monday in Toronto.
Toronto Police Service responded to a call for unknown trouble in the Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue East area Jan. 6 at approximately 2:18 a.m., according to a news release.
The victim and three friends were travelling in their vehicle when a black GMC tow truck began aggressively following closely behind, police said. The suspects inside the tow truck began waving at the victim.
The victim’s vehicle struck several curbs in an attempt to flee the tow truck, and when the victim pulled over as a result of the damage, a man exited the truck and ordered the victims out of their vehicle. A man then drove away in the victim’s vehicle, followed by the tow truck.
Officers quickly located the GMC and stolen vehicle and two suspects were taken into custody, police said.
Yusif Ibrahimov, 30, of Thornhill was charged with robbery and theft of motor vehicle with violence.
Seyed-Amin Ghaem-Maghami, 27, of Richmond Hill was charged with robbery, theft of motor vehicle with violence, and fail to comply undertaking.
