A 76-year-old man is the first resident to pass away after being exposed to COVID-19 in the serious outbreak at Newmarket Health Centre.

The man received a positive test result Nov. 23, the same day of symptom onset, and passed away Nov. 30 at the long-term care facility on Eagle St.,  according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

The 26-day outbreak, which was declared Nov. 7, has seen 10 residents and 11 staff members confirmed positive with the virus.

He is Newmarket's 26th COVID-19 related fatality, and the second resident to die with COVID-19 this week. A 95-year-old man also passed away Nov. 30 after being exposed to the virus at the Roxborough Retirement Residence.
