‘Future Grounds’ is a forward-thinking public art initiative that brings together the creative talents of eight emerging youth artists to Aurora Town Square. Developed in collaboration with the Aurora Cultural Centre and Toronto-based public art collective Oddside Arts, the project showcases large-scale banner installations that combine artistic expression with technology.
Each piece, enhanced with Augmented Reality (AR), offers an immersive experience, allowing visitors to explore the artworks through dynamic animations.
Participating artists:
- Unity’s Gilded Embrace (2024), Sydney Achtermeier
- they watch (2024), Niya Ahmed Abdullahi
- Athena’s touch (2024), Justina Kandiotis
- A Poisoned Dream (2024), Narmineh Khurram
- Guided by the Waves (2024), Madison Kwok
- Esperanza (2024), Luna Quijano-Barraza
- Home (2024), Nazia Munir
- In Comes the New Generation! (2024), Joycelyn Ng
AR technology, which blends computer-generated visuals, sound, and effects with the real world, plays a central role in this initiative. By utilizing the Artvive app, viewers can experience the artworks in a new dimension, witnessing them come to life as the boundary between digital and physical worlds blurs.
‘Future Grounds’ is now on display across various locations within Aurora Town Square. For more information on this initiative and other exhibits at Town Square, visit AuroraTownSquare.ca.
