New substation will be third in the region, along with substations in Whitchurch-Stouffville and King.

York Regional Police have opened a new substation to serve the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) community, anticipated to reach a population of 90,000 in the coming years.

Located at 100 New Park Place, in the area of highways 7 and 400, the new 4,800-square-foot. substation opened Sept. 24.

In a news release, YRP described the station as "a bright office space where members of the community can interact with police officers, file reports, receive crime prevention information and ask questions about the service or policing in general".

The substation, the third in the region, is a part of #4 District.

Police said it will be staffed Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will operate like the substations in Whitchurch-Stouffville and King, police said.

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre eventually will also include 820,000 sq. ft. of office space, creating jobs and housing for York Region, YRP said.

"This development will require York Regional Police to adopt new approaches to vertical policing that include community engagement, technology investments, training and partnerships," the police service said.

From a community perspective, YRP said it is working with builders and developers proactively, to ensure that we have input into the design in terms of optimal response times, communications and technology and training requirements.

“This is a great example of how we are working proactively and collaborating with our community partners early in the planning phases in order to ensure community safety,” said Chief Jim MacSween.

“This substation also gives the community the opportunity to engage with our officers close to home.”
