Warrant issued for Aurora man after shots fired at Newmarket home

A warrant has been issued for Winston Vernon, 35, of Aurora on charges of mischief to property, unauthorized possession of a firearm, uttering threats, assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm and failing to comply with a firearm possession prohibition.

York Regional Police have issued a warrant for an Aurora man in connection with a targeted shooting at a Newmarket home over the weekend.

On Dec. 15 at about 4:15 a.m., police responded to a call about gunshots in the area of College Manor Drive and Greig Circle. Police discovered multiple shell casings in front of the residence, with damage done to a house and vehicle in the driveway. A white hatchback was seen fleeing the area.

While the house was occupied at the time of the shooting,  no one was physically injured, police said.

Investigators believe the incident was targeted.

Investigators seek any additional video surveillance from the area and are appealing to anyone who may have captured dashcam footage at the time of the incident. Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is also asked to come forward.
