A person had met with a male suspect to sell him a phone, which was stolen by the suspect who then fled on foot, on Jan. 18 near Jane Street and Teston Road, a York Regional Police news release said. The victim attempted to give chase, at which point the suspect discharged a firearm in the victim’s direction. The victim was not injured.
The suspect then carjacked a Honda CR-V idling in a driveway, threatening the owner with the firearm. As the suspect attempted to flee in the vehicle, he lost control, crashed and fled on foot.
Through investigation, two suspects were identified. With the assistance of the Niagara Regional Police Service, three search warrants were executed at residences in Niagara Falls, Fort Erie and Toronto.
A fourth warrant was executed on a vehicle, police said. Two youths were subsequently charged.
An adult male has also been charged for failing to comply with his weapons prohibition after ammunition was located in his residence during one of the search warrant executions, police added.
