Two people, including a teenager, have been charged in relation to a grandparent scam that bilked a man for $6,000.
York Regional Police began an investigation in July after a victim reported he had received calls from someone pretending to be a police officer who said the victim’s grandson had been arrested for drugs and needed money for bail. The suspect sent a courier to collect $6,000 cash from the victim.
Later the same day, the suspect called again and said a gun was found in the vehicle and an additional $7,000 was needed. That’s when the victim became suspicious and called police.
Markell London, 20, of Brampton, was charged with fraud over $5,000.
On Wednesday, a 16-year-old Brampton male was also charged with fraud over $5,000.
